What They’re Saying: NRSC Chair Rick Scott Promotes GOP Tax-Hike Agenda In Heritage Foundation Speech As Democrats “Go On The Attack”

Matthew Yglesias, Bloomberg: “The plan states — extremely clearly — that Scott feels a majority of the public is undertaxed”

Natalie Allison, POLITICO: ”His plan would prevent 11 GOP incumbents from seeking reelection this year”

NRSC Chair Rick Scott’s speech this afternoon at the Heritage Foundation has once again put Senate Republicans’ plan to raise taxes on “over half of Americans” and put “an end to Social Security, Medicare” front and center in the 2022 midterms.

See for yourself:

Bryan Metzger, Business Insider (@metzgov): Sen. Rick Scott is set to speak imminently at the Heritage Foundation about his 11-point GOP agenda, which includes making all Americans pay some amount of income tax. The DSCC (Senate Dems campaign arm) is unsurprisingly capitalizing on it, holding up posters out front.

Steve Peoples, Associated Press (@sppeoples): The DNC just put out an advisory encouraging reporters to attend Republican Sen. Rick Scott’s speech about his 11-point plan this afternoon at the Heritage Foundation. Dems are really loving this.

Edward-Isaac Dovere, CNN (@IsaacDovere): What it looks like when Democrats start salivating over a potential campaign issue to go on the attack in the midterms:

Arthur Delaney, HuffPost (@ArthurDelaneyHP): Rick Scott’s original description of his own tax plan:

“All Americans should pay some income tax to have skin in the game, even if a small amount. Currently over half of Americans pay no income tax.”

Arthur Delaney, HuffPost (@ArthurDelaneyHP): The ONLY feature of Scott’s proposal is that it taxes people who do not earn enough money to owe federal income tax.

That’s the totality of it. The whole point.

Rick Scott is remarkably scared of his own proposal.

Matthew Yglesisas, Bloomberg (@mattyglesias): I mean the plan states — extremely clearly — that Scott feels a majority of the public is undertaxed.

The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (@ITEPtweets): It’s included right in the agenda he mapped out for the GOP: Sen. Scott would increase taxes by more than $1,000 on average for the poorest 40% of Americans. https://itep.org/state-by-state-estimates-of-sen-rick-scotts-skin-in-the-game-proposal/

Natalie Allison, POLITICO (@natalie_allison): In speech at Heritage Foundation, Rick Scott refers to his 12-year term limit proposal for Congress. His plan would prevent 11 GOP incumbents from seeking reelection this year. (Grassley has 47 years)
