Twice Failed Senate Candidate Josh Mandel Running AGAIN Means “Expensive, Noisy Primary” For Ohio Republicans

DSCC spokesperson Stewart Boss issued the following statement on failed candidate and corrupt politician Josh Mandel launching his third campaign for the U.S. Senate in Ohio in the last decade as the Republican primary kicks off:

“Josh Mandel is the most shameless candidate to ever run for Senate in Ohio in recent history, but he’s running again even after his scandal-plagued record of corruption and conspiracies dragged down his past two campaigns. He represents the very worst of what Ohio voters loathe in politics: a hypocritical, self-serving perennial candidate who always puts himself and his own interests first at their expense. We look forward to watching Josh Mandel’s candidacy implode for a third time, either in the GOP’s chaotic primary battle or losing in the general election.”

Senator Portman’s retirement last month created a liability in a major battleground state, putting the NRSC further on defense and offering Democrats another improved pickup opportunity as “open seats are more difficult to defend.” Mandel’s campaign launch marks the start of what is sure to be an “expensive, noisy,” “crowded and nasty” primary that will further destabilize the race for the GOP. Within minutes of announcing his candidacy today, Mandel was accused of alluding to the very conspiracy that fueled the deadly mob attack on the U.S. Capitol. Mandel’s long history of scandal and corruption and his embrace of dangerous conspiracy theories will fuel a divisive primary and are a problem for Washington Republicans hoping to hold on to this open seat.
