Republicans’ intensifying “intraparty war” that threatens the GOP’s chances in Georgia’s dual Senate runoffs is causing a political headache for Senator Kelly Loeffler. The unelected “political mega-donor” is being forced to take sides between Gov. Brian Kemp and President Trump, who says he’s “ashamed” to have endorsed the “hapless” Kemp as the president pushes baseless conspiracies of voter fraud. As “the GOP’s worst nightmare” unfolds in Georgia, will Loeffler stand by the governor who appointed her to her seat, or the president she’s pledged to back “100%”?

Loeffler has gone to unbelievable lengths to demonstrate total and complete alignment with President Trump, even going so far as declaring there’s not a single thing Trump has said or done she disagrees with. Loeffler has maintained her fealty to the president even as he lost the state of Georgia and has joined Trump in leveling unfounded claims against the state’s GOP election administrators under pressure from her party leadership in Washington.

Trump’s “anger” towards Kemp is just the latest twist in an “unusual political labyrinth” that has Loeffler and fellow vulnerable GOP incumbent Senator David Perdue performing a “high-wire act” to try and cater to a president who is peddling increasingly outlandish election fraud conspiracies. Trump’s evidence-free accusations of chicanery have “corroded trust in Georgia’s voting system among members of the party base,” who’ve threatened to boycott the runoff election while Loeffler and Perdue struggle to fend off mounting scandals in their tight bids to hold their seats.

“Kelly Loeffler has spent all year bending over backwards to prove her credentials as the most pro-Trump senator in the country, but now she’s silent as the president takes aim at the Republican governor who appointed her to the Senate in the first place,” said DSCC spokesperson Helen Kalla. “Georgians deserve to know if Loeffler’s unconditional support for Trump extends to disavowing her political patron who handpicked her for public office.”
