Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) Chair Sen. Gary Peters joined MSNBC’s The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell to discuss the DSCC’s new $25 million investment in direct voter contact programs across 10 states. MSNBC: The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell

Sen. Peters: Last cycle, it was our ground campaign that allowed us to win these very tight races. Today, we announced that we’re investing $25 million into our incumbent seats, as well as our pickup opportunities in Florida and Texas…But you’re right, the stakes could not be higher. These races are tight. I’m confident we can win. We have the best candidates. If you look at the candidate quality differences, I look at these Republican candidates that we’re running against, and they’re basically on a continuum from flawed to very flawed. And I’ll say most of them are towards the very flawed category.
Lawrence O’Donnell: Talk about the two possibilities you see in the map, the two most likely possibilities you see in the map, to pick up and add to the Democratic majority.
Sen. Peters: We do have pick-up opportunities, and we have to go on the offense. Certainly, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure that we hold the states where we have a Democratic incumbent now, but we need to go on the offense. The stakes are so high. Both Florida and Texas provide that opportunity to us. We have outstanding Democratic candidates in both those states, and they’re running against what I call flawed Republican candidates that do not represent the interest of their state.
