Oz Gets Pork Rolled On ‘New Jersey Day’

Daily Beast: “Mehmet Oz owns an undisclosed apartment in New Jersey”
People: “Not too long ago, his Garden State identity was proudly on display as he fawned over the people of New Jersey”
NJ.com: “A time-honored tradition — reminding everyone Dr. Oz has been a longtime resident of Jersey”

Wednesday’s “National New Jersey Day” brought new revelations and wall-to-wall coverage about Memhet Oz’s longtime ties to the Garden State – and his lack of connection to Pennsylvania.

Daily Beast: Dr. Oz’s Turkish Nationalist Pals Living in His Secret N.J. Condo

  • Dr. Mehmet Oz owns an undisclosed apartment in New Jersey.
  • Bergen County records show that since 2006 Oz and his wife have owned the condominium in the borough of Fairview, a seven-minute drive from their mansion overlooking the Hudson River, where the county sent the unit’s property tax bill as recently as this year.
  • Oz’s recent conversion to Pennsylvania resident has dogged him since he launched his campaign.
  • His latest FEC report showed stops for gas in Princeton, New Jersey, four times over the past quarter.

People: On National New Jersey Day, Dr. Oz’s Pa. Senate Challenger Reflects on the Doctor’s Garden State Roots

  • Mehmet Oz… can’t seem to escape his history of proudly proclaiming to be a New Jerseyan.
  • On Wednesday — also known as National New Jersey Day — Oz’s Democratic challenger, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, further proved his internet savviness as he and his wife took a moment to once again remind Pennsylvania voters that Oz only declared residency in the state a year before announcing his Senate run.
  • “Today is a very big day for Dr. Oz,” Fetterman says in a video posted to Twitter, referring to National New Jersey Day. “It’s a holiday recognizing Dr. Oz’s home state!”
  • Fetterman and his wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, went on to say that they will be celebrating the “special occasion” by installing a billboard later this week along the New Jersey-Pennsylvania state line. A mockup of the billboard reads: “Now leaving New Jersey for Pennsylvania … just like Dr. Oz.”
  • In recent weeks Fetterman flew a “Welcome Home” banner over the Jersey Shore while Oz was visiting one of his Jersey residences, started a petition to induct Oz in the New Jersey Hall of Fame, and called him a “tourist” when an image of him in a Pennsylvania market reached the internet.
  • He also recruited famous New Jersey residents to film videos aligning themselves with Oz. In one, Jersey Shore’s Snooki poked fun at Oz’s move to Pennsylvania, calling it “temporary” while he attempts to “look for a new job.”
  • Not too long ago, his Garden State identity was proudly on display as he fawned over the people of New Jersey, calling them his favorite thing about the state. “Each of us are the safety net for the other next to us,” he told Hip New Jersey in a 2020 video interview. “That’s what humanity has always been about and we know it in New Jersey.”
  • Once quick to post about his regular attendance at Yankees and Giants baseball games, he can’t connect with voters over the Phillies and Pirates. Formerly ranked the fifth most influential New Jersey resident (and still known to frequently return to his upscale, Manhattan-facing Jersey home), Oz doesn’t resonate with blue-collar workers in the same way no-frills Fetterman does.
  • The wealth of recorded statements Oz has made about loving New Jersey certainly aren’t helping.

NJ.com: Steven Van Zandt latest N.J. celeb to razz Dr. Oz for Fetterman Senate campaign

  • Steven Van Zandt knows New Jersey. Now he’s using his Jersey cred to stump for Democratic Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman in what has become a time-honored tradition — reminding everyone Dr. Oz has been a longtime resident of Jersey.
  • “Yo! Dr. Oz! Stevie VZ here,” the singer-songwriter, E Street band member and actor from Middletown said in a video for the Fetterman campaign. “Whad’ya doin’ in Pennsylvania?”
  • “Everybody knows you live in New Jersey and you’re just using your in laws’ address over there,” he said.
  • “And you do not wanna mess around with John Fetterman,” said Van Zandt, 71, who played Silvio Dante on “The Sopranos.”
  • “Trust me. You’re a little outta your league. Nobody wants to see you get embarrassed. So come on back to Jersey where you belong and we’ll have some fun. We’ll go to the beach. We’ll so surfing. You know … c’mon.”
  • Earlier this month, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi from MTV’s “Jersey Shore” appeared in a Cameo video commissioned by the Fetterman campaign that has been viewed more than three million times.

Washington Post: First Snooki, now Little Steven: Fetterman trolls Oz with N.J. celebrities

  • Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, Pennsylvania’s Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, is using some of New Jersey’s most popular names to troll his Republican opponent Mehmet Oz, who is better known as a Garden State resident.
  • Oz has reportedly lived in New Jersey for three decades and primarily resides in a mansion overlooking the Hudson River in the affluent town of Cliffside Park. Fetterman is intent on making sure as many Pennsylvania voters as possible are aware of this.
  • The lieutenant governor released an ad Wednesday featuring musician Steven Van Zandt, a guitarist in the famed Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and the character Silvio Dante in HBO’s award-winning, New Jersey-based series “The Sopranos.” In the ad, Van Zandt warns Oz that he does not want to mess around with Fetterman and should come back to his home state.
  • Earlier this month, Fetterman released an ad featuring reality star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” jabbing at Oz for leaving his “home” in New Jersey. Fetterman tweeted the ad with the words “Jersey will not forget you!”

The Hill: Fetterman trolls Oz with another New Jersey celebrity

  • Pennsylvania Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman enlisted the help of another New Jersey celebrity to take a jab at Republican challenger Mehmet Oz’s ties to the state: musician Steven Van Zandt.
  • Fetterman’s campaign has sought to portray Oz, who has been endorsed by former President Trump, as a carpetbagger from New Jersey in Pennsylvania’s competitive Senate race.
  • The Pennsylvania lieutenant governor has used various methods to troll Oz over the issue, including flying an airplane banner along South Jersey beaches that read, “HEY DR. OZ, WELCOME HOME TO NJ! ❤ JOHN” and enlisting the help of former “Jersey Shore” cast member Nicole “Snooki” LaValle.
