IN THE STATES: Senate Democrats Slam Senate Republican Candidates for Attacks on Social Security

On the 89th anniversary of the Social Security Act being signed into law, Democratic Senate candidates and campaigns across Senate battleground states highlighted how they are fighting to protect Social Security and slammed Senate Republican candidates for threatening to gut Social Security and Medicare.

See for yourself:

In FL: Florida Democrats slammed Rick Scott and his plan to end Social Security and Medicare and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign announced her endorsement from Social Security Works PAC, whose president called out Scott for being “a thief who came up with a specific plan to end Social Security and Medicare.”

In MD: Angela Alsobrooks emphasized her commitment to protecting Social Security: “Seniors across Maryland worked hard their entire lives to earn their Social Security benefits…in the Senate I will always defend their hard-earned benefits.”

In MI: The Michigan Democratic Party hammered Mike Rogers for “support[ing] toxic plans to jeopardize Social Security and Medicare” and for “want[ing] to slash Social Security and transform Medicare into a voucher program.”

In NV: Jacky Rosen’s campaign released a new TV and digital ad, “Depend,” spotlighting Sam Brown’s record supporting plans that would force massive cuts to Social Security and Medicare. The Nevada Democratic Party called out Sam Brown for “saying he admired an extreme plan that would phase out Social Security and Medicare in five years – calling it a ‘roadmap for a better America.’”

In OH: Sherrod Brown marked the anniversary with President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare, Max Richtman, who said, “The contrast is clear in Ohio’s Senate race: Sherrod Brown will always fight for Ohioans – while Bernie Moreno only looks out for himself.”

In PA: The Pennsylvania Democratic Party blasted David McCormick for repeatedly “threaten[ing] to put the program on the chopping block.”

In TX: “We can’t trust Cruz to protect the benefits Texans have paid into and earned” — the Texas Democratic Party blasted Ted Cruz for wanting to “privatize Social Security, which he has called a ‘Ponzi scheme.’”

In WI: The Wisconsin Democratic Party hammered Eric Hovde for saying “he ‘absolutely’ wants to cut Social Security benefits, raise the retirement age, and cut lifelines for struggling families.”
