Key Points:

  • “Reproductive health for women is a powerful issue and one that we will certainly be campaigning on in the fall,” said Sen. Gary Peters, who chairs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, on Tuesday.

  • “Particularly if we see Roe v. Wade potentially overturned this summer, it’s going to be an issue that will motivate people in a significant way,” he added.

  • Warnock, Kelly, and Hassan come from states that have backed certain requirements regarding ultrasounds, counseling, and wait periods, which would be tossed out if the Women’s Health Protection Act were to ever pass Congress.
  • Kelly said… “I think women should have a right to make these decisions between them and their doctor, and I think it’s important that we maintain those rights.”

  • Abortion recently jumped to being a top issue for 13 percent of Democrats across the country, according to an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll conducted in January.
  • DSCC spokeswoman Jazmin Vargas said abortion was always an issue that was going to be “front and center” for Democrats in the midterm races but now is even more at the “forefront of voters minds” with the upcoming Supreme Court ruling.
  • “What you’ll see from us and from state parties is that Democrats will be holding Republican candidates accountable for their anti-choice record,” Vargas said, highlighting Nevada and New Hampshire.
