National Republicans openly worried that in the failure to recruit a top tier candidate for the open U.S. Senate seat in Florida, and the whopping four declared candidates vying for the nomination, had “the potential makings of a primary bloodbath.” Well, the GOP campaigns are wasting no time to meet those expectations.
In a video his campaign is promoting online, Carlos Lopez-Cantera “rails against Washington Republicans” saying in obvious reference to two of his opponents, Congressmen Ron DeSantis and David Jolly:
“Too many Republican leaders have broken their promises to uphold our conservative values. You know, too many get to Washington, and they never leave. They start representing Washington, and forget that it’s their job to represent us.”
Lopez-Cantera’s hit follows another heated exchange between the Jolly and DeSantis campaigns around an anonymous video attack.
“Welcome to the clown show, the one Republicans don’t want you see and you can’t help but watch,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “This is exactly the type of infighting that Republican operatives predicted would harm their ability to keep this must-hold seat, and it’s clear that their eventual nominee will come out of the primary badly damaged and poorly positioned to take on a candidate as qualified and strong as Patrick Murphy.”
