DSCC releases new digital video on Hovde: “California Jerk” 

Following Wisconsin’s Senate primary, today, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) released the following statement and digital video, “California Jerk,” on Eric Hovde. Last week the DSCC launched its first TV ad against Hovde, “OC.” 

From DSCC spokesman Tommy Garcia: “California Banker Eric Hovde is a rich jerk and a walking conflict of interest. He looks down on Wisconsinites, doesn’t understand Wisconsin’s values and he’d hurt Wisconsinites in the Senate. Hovde’s shown he’s arrogant, insulting and his agenda is to help himself and his rich friends at the expense of working Wisconsinites — and that’s why Wisconsin voters will reject him in November.”

What to know about California Banker Eric Hovde: 

• Hovde is a California bank owner with more ties to California than Wisconsin. Hovde has been “living large in Laguna Beach,” lived “in a gated California community with private yacht parking” and been named one of Orange County’s most influential people three times. • Hovde looks down on Wisconsinites. He’s said farmers don’t work hard anymore, suggested nursing home residents shouldn’t vote, and bragged he knows about Black culture because he’s been to Africa. He’s criticized Black men, single parents, people struggling with their weight, young people and college students, Native communities, the Jewish community, and more. • Eric Hovde is a “walking conflict of interest,” who is running for Senate to make himself richer. Hovde is worth upwards of over half a billion dollars and is refusing to give up ownership of his bank if he is elected to the Senate.

• His bank has “been accepting money from unknown foreign governments and banks” and is still accepting foreign deposits. 

• Recent reports revealed Hovde’s family business tried to do business in China, the hedge fund he ran invested millions in foreign companies involved in tax dodging and sanctions evasion in Iran, Cuba, and Libya, and that Hovde managed nearly $1 billion in the Cayman Islands, an offshore tax haven.

• Hovde would enact a self-serving agenda to benefit himself and the ultra-wealthy while hurting working Wisconsinites. Hovde would ban abortion, gut Social Security and Medicare, repeal the Affordable Care Act, roll back caps on the price of prescription drugs, and cut taxes for rich people like himself while raising taxes on middle-class families.
