DSCC Statement On Sen. Wicker’s Comments On SCOTUS Nominee

In response to Republican Senator Roger Wicker’s comment stating that the first Black woman to be nominated to the Supreme Court will be the “beneficiary” of affirmative action, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Jazmin Vargas issued the following statement:

“President Biden has yet to announce his nominee for the Supreme Court, but Republican senators are already attacking her because of the color of her skin – and Senator Wicker’s comments demonstrate how low the GOP will go as they oppose Democrats’ Supreme Court nominee. The stakes for Roe v. Wade and so many other issues Americans care so deeply about has never been higher, and these kinds of comments from Republicans only reinforce the importance of protecting and expanding Democrats’ Senate Majority with the power to confirm Supreme Court justices.”
