New Digital Ad Shows Lake’s Power Hungry Lies and Dangerous Support for Banning Abortion in Her Own Words

In response to Arizona’s GOP Senate primary, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is launching a new digital advertisement, “Power Hungry.” 

The spot highlights how Kari Lake will do or say anything to gain power, using her own statements to show how her dangerous, power-hungry agenda is wrong for Arizona, including: her support for banning abortion, her continued attempts to declare herself governor of Arizona, and how she uses baseless conspiracy theories and divisive rhetoric to advance her own ambitions.

The ad will reach Independent voters in Arizona on YouTube.

From DSCC spokesperson Maeve Coyle: “Even Republicans say Kari Lake is a power-hungry liar who will say or do anything to advance her ambitions at Arizonans’ expense. Lake keeps showing Arizonans why she has no place representing them in the Senate: advocating for dangerous policies like an 1864 abortion ban, costing taxpayers money by pursuing pointless court cases about an election she lost, and deploying divisive rhetoric alongside outlandish conspiracy theories to try and gain power. Arizonans have already rejected Lake because she’s only ever out for herself — and that’s why she’ll be defeated again in November.”  

What to know about Kari Lake: 

Kari Lake is a power-hungry liar who will say or do anything to advance her ambitions: 

• Lake has faced scrutiny for her power-hungry lies, with media outlets calling her statements nonsense, “misleading,” “deceitful,” and noting that she is “flat-out ly[ing].”
  
  
• Lake continues to relitigate her failed 2022 election, appealing a court case and attempting to declare herself governor just this month.
  
  
• Lake’s previous “baseless” and “reckless” election denial cases have been described as “furthering false narratives” and have been “brushed aside” by courts. Lake’s requests for courts to “endorse a conspiracy theory” are “costing Arizona taxpayers real money.”

Kari Lake supports banning abortion and ripping away Arizonans’ freedom to make their own health care decisions: 

• Lake cheered on the ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, saying she “couldn’t be more thrilled” about the Supreme Court’s “very smart” decision that “corrected a 50 year wrong” as abortion “never should have been granted as a right.”
  
  
• Lake calls abortion “murder,” “killing,” “execution,” “sacrifice,” “the ultimate sin” and says it is “not health care” and “not a choice that someone gets to make.”
  
  
• Lake supports Arizona’s draconian 1864 territorial abortion ban, calling it a “great law” and saying she was “incredibly thrilled” that it would go into effect. Lake said it was “unfortunate” the ban wasn’t being enforced and called on sheriffs to begin enforcing the dangerous ban.
  

Kari Lake has dangerous and divisive views that are out-of-step with normal Arizonans: 

• Lake uses dangerous and divisive rhetoric, encouraging political violence and calling on supporters to “strap on a Glock” ahead of the 2024 election.
   
• Lake claimed late Senator John McCain was “reaching up from the grave trying to keep power in Arizona” and told McCain supporters to “get the hell out” of her event.
  

Even Republicans say that Kari Lake’s power-hungry lies and dangerous views are out of step with general election voters: 

• Republicans have warned that Kari Lake’s power hungry quest to stay in the “limelight” “will result in another defeat” as Lake “can’t be trusted in anything she says or does.”
  
  
• Republican Senators have expressed concern that “Lake is not a strong candidate in Arizona” because she has “alienated” Arizonans with her conspiracy theories and election denialism.
  
  
• Arizona Republicans say Lake has an “uphill climb” and looks “increasingly like she isn’t a candidate that can win.”
