DSCC Highlights Rick Scott’s Toxic, Self-Serving Agenda at the Start of the General Election in Florida

In response to the start of the general election in Florida’s Senate race, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is reminding voters about Rick Scott’s toxic, self-serving agenda: ending Social Security and Medicare as we know them, passing a strict national abortion ban, and raising taxes on middle class families.

From his infamous plan to phase out Medicare and Social Security to his support for the state’s dangerous six-week abortion ban, Scott has shown Floridians he has no business representing them, and that’s why this November, Florida voters will reject him.”

What to know about Rick Scott: 

Rick Scott supports a national abortion ban that would rip away women’s right to make their own health care decisions: 

• Scott has repeatedly supported Florida’s six-week abortion ban with no real exceptions for rape or incest, saying, “If I was the sitting governor, and the six-week abortion ban came in front of me, I would sign it. I’ve always said I would sign it.” 
  
  
• Scott went even further and pledged to sign “any” anti-abortion bill in front of him in the Senate. 
  
  
• Scott co-sponsored a national abortion ban in the Senate. 

Rick Scott’s signature plan sunsets Social Security and Medicare, spiking costs for seniors and families: 

• Scott’s plan has been called “ill-advised” and puts “Florida seniors at risk of losing Social Security, Medicare.” 
  
  
• Even Mitch McConnell knows Scott’s plan to eliminate Social Security and Medicare is toxic, saying, “I think it will be a challenge for him to deal with this in his own reelection in Florida.” 

Rick Scott will raise taxes on middle class families while he enriches himself: 

• Scott’s self-serving signature plan raises taxes on half of Americans and would spike costs for families and seniors while he continues to get richer in the Senate.
