DSCC FRIDAY TAKEAWAYS: SENATE DEMS & DSCC LAUNCH “ABORTION RIGHTS BLITZ,” SHEEHY’S “SLEW OF BAD HEADLINES,” MORENO’S LIES, LIES, AND MORE LIES

SENATE DEMS’ “ABORTION RIGHTS BLITZ” → Ahead of the second anniversary of the Republican Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Axios detailed how “Senate Dem campaigns ready abortion rights blitz.” Read more:

  • “Senate Democratic campaigns are launching a month-long blitz on reproductive rights, pressing Republicans on abortion as the second anniversary of the fall of Roe v. Wade approaches.”
  • “The blitz will include paid advertising from the DSCC, events hosted by campaigns and local organizations, and social media activity.”
  • “Senate Democrats will also spend this month voting on reproductive rights bills, marking an all-encompassing barrage from the party on abortion rights.”

THE HEADLINES SAY IT ALL… → Senate Republicans were hit by a wave of negative headlines calling them out for blocking legislation that would have guaranteed contraception access, the latest example of how Senate GOP candidates are a direct threat to reproductive freedom. See for yourself.

AND MORENO CONFIRMS (AGAIN) HE OPPOSES PROTECTING ACCESS TO CONTRACEPTION → After voting against contraception protections in Ohio’s Issue 1 ballot referendum last year, this week Bernie Moreno announced he “doesn’t support” protecting access to contraception and would have voted against the Right to Contraception Act.

IN WAPO: “Obama calls protecting Senate majority critical,” says “our candidates, as usual, are better” and “we know how to win.”

SHEEHY’S “SLEW OF BAD HEADLINES” KEEPS GROWING → Republican Tim Sheehy is facing a wave of bad stories after Tuesday’s primary detailing his “problematic campaign missteps” and how he “doesn’t understand Montana values.” See for yourself:

  • Helena Independent Record: “[Sheehy] has faced a slew of bad headlines, including carpetbagging criticism, half-truths about who is receiving the proceeds from his book and revelations that he lied about a gunshot wound.”
  • Daily Montanan: “[Sheehy] has also drawn scrutiny for his Minnesota roots, his multiple multi-million-dollar properties, his company’s finances and a lawsuit he faces from former employees, and his lie to a Glacier National Park ranger about how a bullet ended up lodged in his arm.”
  • 📣 The DSCC released a new ad highlighting the pattern of lies Sheehy has told Montanans and the Montana Democratic Party launched ShadySheehyLies.com to spotlight why Montanans can’t trust the GOP Senate candidate.

MORENO’S LIES, LIES, AND MORE LIES →

  • BERNIE’S BLOWING SMOKE ABOUT BLOCKCHAIN → This week, the Ohio Capital Journal reported that Bernie Moreno’s claims about how he “convinced AT&T to bring 5G to Cleveland” are not supported by facts, writing “the record, however, tells a different story.”
  • MEANWHILE, CLEVELAND.COM COLUMN DETAILS MORENO’S ATTEMPT TO “REWRITE” HIS LIFE → A new column in Cleveland.com this week detailed the “persistent reports of [Moreno] rewriting his personal and family history in an effort to disguise himself” to Ohioans and craft a phony “up-by-the-bootstraps image” that’s “inconsistent” with the reality of his “privileged upper class” background.
  • OHIOANS ARE “INSULTED AND APPALLED” → At an event in Lima, OH, Ohioans said they were “insulted and appalled” by Bernie Moreno’s campaign lies and attempts to “turn himself into someone he is not to appeal to Ohioans,” according to reporting by Lima News

ANOTHER HORRENDOUS WEEK FOR HOVDE:

  • A FRAUD’S FREUDIAN SLIP → Amid ongoing criticism of his out-of-state ties, Wisconsin GOP candidate Eric Hovde said on Fox Business, “I’ve never been a resident of the state of Wisconsin.” Watch for yourself
  • EVEN MORE OFFENSIVE COMMENTS RESURFACE → Reporting by the Heartland Signal uncovered Hovde’s 2017 remarks saying Native American reservations are to blame for “alcoholism, dropout rates, [and] depression rates.” Hovde’s comments make Native Americans “one of many groups of people Hovde has belittled in recent years.”
  • WHO NEEDS VOTERS WITH EMPLOYEES LIKE THESE? → A bombshell report this week from TMJ4 details that Hovde’s newest campaign ad “exclusively featur[es] senior employees of his real estate company – without disclosing their relationship to him.”

BROWN’S GUN POLICIES “OUT OF STEP” WITH NEVADA → This week, reporting from The Nevadan outlined Sam Brown’s “laissez faire stance on gun regulations” and how even GOP voters call him “out of step with […] voters.”

HOGAN “BOOED” AT PRIDE PARADE FOR ANTI-LGBTQ RECORD → Reporting from the Baltimore Banner detailed how Republican Larry Hogan was “openly booed” during “his first-ever Pride Month event.” Read more about Hogan’s anti-LGBTQ record.

MCCONNELL REMINDS VOTERS HE HANDPICKED HOGAN → According to POLITICO, Mitch McConnell is AGAIN touting Larry Hogan as part of the key for the GOP “to set the agenda,” saying, “I support all of the Republican candidates, and certainly Gov. Hogan would be among them.”

MARYLANDERS ON HOGAN: “COG IN THE LARGER REPUBLICAN MACHINE” → Maryland voters are making the risks of Larry Hogan’s candidacy clear, with one voter writing in the Wall Street Journal “a vote for Mr. Hogan” is a vote for a GOP that “offers gridlock, promotes isolationism and delivers an ultraconservative, life-tenured judiciary.” Another voter wrote in the Baltimore Sun that Hogan will “knuckle under to the GOP leadership.”

FLORIDA EDITORIAL BOARD TELLS SCOTT “TO GROW UP” This week, the Sun Sentinel Editorial Board published a scathing opinion piece, saying Senator Rick Scott “seem[s] to be stuck on the kids’ playground.” The Editorial Board concludes that “neither the Senate nor the nation could possibly be served worse” by Scott’s run for GOP Leader.
