POLITICO PROFILES DSCC CHAIR GARY PETERS – “RESUME OF RACKING UP WINS.” In case you missed it, POLITICO profiled Chair Gary Peters – laying out how his record of winning tough races will help Democrats protect and expand our Senate majority in November. Key excerpts:
“WASHINGTON WIMPS,” “HOLLYWOOD LIBERAL,” “CANNOT WIN” – ATTACKS FLY AS GOP INFIGHTING ESCALATES. New reporting from NBC News highlighted how Republicans “are duking it out in primary races across the country” while Democrats “let Republicans be the ones tearing into each other and leaving a lasting mark for voters.” Catch up quick with some of the most recent brutal attacks in key battleground states from the past week here:
→ In North Carolina, The Club for Growth – which is “pumping millions” into the race to back Ted Budd – went up with a Valentine’s Day attack ad that told North Carolinians to “find someone who loves you as much as Pat McCrory loves liberals.”
→ In Pennsylvania, Mehmet Oz and David McCormick continue to trade fire on the airwaves as they “wage [a] battle for Trump endorsement in GOP Senate primary.” Oz’s super-PAC launched a brutal new ad this week that charges “McCormick got rich off us. McCormick led a hedge fund with a billion-dollar Chinese investment program. He called China our ally.” McCormick allies hit back with a new ad slamming Oz as a “Hollywood liberal.”
→ In Ohio, Fox News is highlighting “new Ohio Senate fireworks over Trump in one of the nation’s most heated primaries,” after Mike Gibbons went up with a new ad this week bashing J.D. Vance and Jane Timken as “Washington Wimps” and “highlighting their past comments critical of Trump.” Timken is hitting back with a new ad, accusing her male GOP opponents of trying to “overcompensate” with their support for Trump.
“THEY KEEP SAYING NO” – MCCONNELL COMES UP SHORT IN RECRUITMENT & FEUD WITH TRUMP. New reports highlight how Mitch McConnell has been desperately trying to “recruit candidates who have been willing to be critical of the former President into key Senate races” but that “it’s not going according to plan” as Senate Republicans continue to “suffer humiliating recruitment failures.”
SILVER STATE SCANDAL: LAXALT FACES SCRUTINY FOR POTENTIAL CHARITY VIOLATION. Corrupt, failed politician Adam Laxalt is once again at the center of a legal scandal, with the Daily Beast reporting that Laxalt may have illegally used his nonprofit organization to engage in political activities.
JOHNSON DIGS DEEPER HOLE, “TELLS WISCONSIN WORKER NOT TO WORRY ABOUT LOSING JOBS.” Self-serving Senator Ron Johnson continues to “double down” on his comments that he will not fight to bring more than 1,000 new jobs to Wisconsin – now telling a voter directly to their face that they shouldn’t worry about good-paying jobs for the Badger State.
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL OP-ED: THE RANTING 2022 VERSION OF SEN. RON JOHNSON HAS CREATED A MESS OF HIS OWN MAKING. “In prior election cycles, I was a fan of Sen. Ron Johnson. He came to office in 2010 as a plain-speaking, pro-market, budget-conscious business leader. Unfortunately, today a lot of people no longer recognize him.”
NEW HAMPSHIRE “MITCHSTAKES”: B-TEAM REPUBLICANS WOULD DO HIS BIDDING IN SENATE. The New Hampshire Democratic Party launched “MitchStakes” this week, a project that will highlight how all of the Republicans running for Senate are promising to push McConnell’s agenda at New Hampshire’s expense.
GEORGIA BUSINESS OWNERS, LEADERS CONTINUE CALLING OUT WALKER’S SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES. Georgia elected officials and business leaders held a press conference on Thursday slamming Herschel Walker as his true record continues to come into focus – including his long record of shadowy, dishonest business practices.
→ GDP Chair Rep. Nikema Williams: “Politicians like Herschel Walker think they are above personal responsibility and financial accountability. You wouldn’t accept this behavior from a business partner. You wouldn’t accept this conduct from your own employer. And we certainly shouldn’t accept it from a candidate for public office. Georgia deserves better.”

AND WALKER’S GOP PRIMARY OPPONENTS CONTINUE TO GO ON THE ATTACK. New reporting this week from the AP on Walker’s turbulent past also escalated the GOP infighting; Walker’s GOP primary opponent Gary Black held a press conference where he “repeated an earlier statement that Walker’s past should disqualify him from the Senate,” and Latham Saddler slammed the “drip, drip, drip of stories” about Walker, stating that “Herschel cannot win this seat.”
JUST THIS WEEK, THANKS TO SENATE DEMOCRATS
→ Warnock Fighting To Lower Insulin Costs. This week Senator Warnock introduced a bill that would cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month. It’s just the latest example of Senate Democrats working to address Americans’ most pressing priorities like lowering costs.
IN THE STATES:
CO – Colorado Politics: Is Ron Hanks the next Darryl Glenn? GOP delegates and primary voters will decide. “Lately, it’s become commonplace to hear comparisons between Hanks — and his chances of winning this year’s GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate — and Darryl Glenn, the 2016 Republican nominee and longshot candidate who came from the back of the pack to defeat a wide primary field of wealthy self-funders and more polished politicians.”
FL – West Orlando News: Florida Democrats Hit Senator Rubio for Missing Aging Committee Hearing. “Republican Senator Marco Rubio has been hammered for years about failing to show up for hearings or Congressional obligations and Florida Democrats are once again calling him out after he skipped a hearing of the Special Committee on Aging on improving Medicare and Medicaid services.”
PA – York Dispatch (Editorial): Senate hopeful fumbles with Super Bowl ad. “It’s a sad reflection of a party that is in a sad state… all it really highlighted was how ill-served Pennsylvania would be with Dave McCormick representing it in the Senate.”
