Boozman’s Bad Week

Dismal Approval Rating & An Energetic Challenger Prompt National GOP To Tell Boozman To “Step It Up”

CNN Reports On: “growing concern from party elders who fear he risks a repeat of past election debacles”

This wasn’t John Boozman’s week.

The latest poll out of Arkansas put Boozman’s approval rating at a dismal 38 percent – lower than other statewide officials in his state – and indicates that public opinion back home is catching on to his lackluster career in Washington.

National Republicans are also unimpressed. A day after the poll was released, CNN reported Boozman has been warned to “step it up or risk losing” his seat:

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has recently had a serious conversation with Boozman about the state of his campaign, sources said…The National Republican Senatorial Committee has also flatly warned Boozman that it will not spend a penny in Arkansas if he gets into trouble, according to several people familiar with the situation.”

The lack of confidence surrounding Boozman’s campaign comes as Democratic challenger Conner Eldridge continues to build momentum. On the heels of a stellar fundraising report, where Edridge raised more in three weeks than Boozman could pull in all quarter, the DSCC endorsed his candidacy.

“The challenges keep piling up for John Boozman, who now counts a weak approval rating and doubts from his own party on a growing list of concerns,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “Arkansas voters now have a choice between Boozman and Conner Eldridge who spent much of his career in business and then fought as a U.S. Attorney to make Arkansas communities safer, and the NRSC is clearly worried about how this will play out.”
