A series of new reports in North Carolina, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Pennsylvania highlight the “debasing and humiliating” intra-party GOP fights in Senate battlegrounds.

In North Carolina:

• The Charlotte Observer editorial board wrote how the Club For Growth is out with a “brutal” new mailer attacking McCrory with “the kind of ferocity that’s usually saved for a general election,” and noting that “observers, both Republican and Democrat, say they’ve never seen an all-out assault like this in a same-party campaign in our state.” The mailer is just the latest in a series of public attacks between McCrory and Trump-backed candidate Ted Budd.

In New Hampshire:

• A wave of news coverage has put a spotlight on New Hampshire Republicans’ shady backroom dealings — the latest in a series of bizarre, desperate, and ineffective efforts to control their crowded and unknown field. New Hampshire reporters are calling the meeting an “anti-democratic” effort that will do nothing to prevent a likely “bloodletting.”

• From WMUR’s Political Director Adam Sexton: “The potential is there for, you know, a lot of bloodletting to happen if it’s a competitive primary from now until September. Time is of the essence here. I mean… these are a lot of folks who don’t have name recognition. Where are the candidates?”

In Ohio:

• WXVU reported that the state’s GOP Senate primary is shaping up to “be Ohio’s ugliest ever,” as Josh Mandel, J.D. Vance, Jane Timken, Mike Gibbons, and Bernie Moreno all compete amongst each other to see who can “curry the favor of their Fearless Leader, Donald Trump.” Their infighting “has descended into meanness and pettiness and just plain craziness unlike anything ever seen in Ohio Republican politics.”

In Pennsylvania:

• The Hill detailed how the “chaotic” GOP primary in Pennsylvania has descended into a “free-for-all,” with Republican sparring escalating.

• One GOP campaign publicly mocked Dr. Oz and potential candidate David McCormick in a statement, saying that voters “can pick two out-of-state guys who have done more for China’s economy and Turkey’s army than they have for the people of Pennsylvania” — just the latest public attack in what will be a “long, contentious, and expensive” race.
